Statement Regarding Recent News
Angry? Hurt? Upset? Or no longer surprised?
Whatever your emotions as a Hamilton Academical supporter tonight, they are not positive. In just a few short months, we have had 21 league points deducted (including 15 in May, which relegated us), a move away from our home without fan consultation, a transfer embargo, the closure of our youth academy, young players’ careers left in tatters with no future development fees, and almost daily rumours of further concerns surrounding our club. Tensions among supporters continue to grow as the full story never appears to be shared, and accountability for this mess is never admitted.
Tonight’s news is just the latest chapter in what seems like a never-ending disaster unfolding before our eyes. We face ridicule from supporters of other clubs, many of whom question whether we have got off lightly today and what is truly happening with Hamilton Academical Football Club.
With no further update on the proposed takeover and the latest punishment, we, as a Supporters’ Association, demand answers from the club. On 31 January 2025, Club Chairman Jock Brown released the following statement:
“I regret very much that, in view of important developments pertaining to the stadium acquisition, it is necessary to postpone the Fans’ Forum scheduled for Wednesday evening, 5 February, at Hamilton Racecourse. I can assure you that the event will be rescheduled and a new date will be announced in due course. Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.”
Given the utter chaos that has transpired since then, hiding is no longer an option. Whether it is to share with fans the reasons they believe demonstrate the club has not breached rules, that it is being targeted or to finally take some form of ownership, there are supporters suffering and they deserve better.
As a Supporters’ Association, we will make all the necessary arrangements to find a suitable venue for a fans’ forum. All we need from the club is confirmation of their availability, and we will then contact our members and the wider mailing list with the details, allowing them a chance to have their voices heard before it is too late. We will write to the club directly with this offer.
Finally, we wish to express our full support for John Rankin, his players, and staff at this time. We have nothing but admiration for their attitude and commitment shown so far this season under extremely difficult circumstances.
